Program
The Volunteer Teacher Assistant shadows one or many language teachers during classes at a local school and provides teaching and learning support in whatever way possible. The international volunteering experience acquired during the program will look great on a CV and enhance the participant’s professional career as well as being an excellent opportunity for participants to develop communication/ teaching skills and learn some basics of the destination language. At the same time, the program encourages local students at a school to learn about different cultures and improve their language skills by interacting with a native speaker.
Lessons at school
Volunteer Teacher Assistant are expected to work an average of 18h per week alongside a language teacher. The schedule will be set with the school. Teaching hours can be from Monday to Saturdays, depending on the school.
School levels: primary, middle and high schools
Accommodation and Meals
- Depending on the chosen start date the program may include local school holidays
- Participants will be hosted and receive full board in exchange for the teaching hours (no money compensation)
- Participants can be placed all throughout the destination country
- No teaching experience/degree is required but preferable
- Specific program dates apply, and participants must arrive at the closest airport / train station to their placement (in the morning of the starting date)
Terms of Participation
- Be min. 18 years old
- Have English/German/Spanish as native language (other languages on demand)
- Have a basic knowledge of French
- Have a high school degree (being a university student or graduate is preferable)
- Be in good mental and physical health
- Provide a CV, criminal record and completed application form
- Have positive personal references. Professional references are a plus.
- Have travel insurance covering sickness, accidents, repatriation and third-party liability
- Have an adequate means of financial support during the duration of the program

Near the Alps, there is a lot of fishing, skiing and mountain climbing. As you move towards the South, water sports and beach life rule. The French are fond of all kinds of sports, both individual and in teams. Cycling is one of the national favourites. When the prestigious Tour de France begins the whole country follows the contest from start to finish. Maybe that’s a sport you want to try during your high school exchange?
